What people ask first

Do I need a smartphone to receive warnings?+
No. GWES Sentinel delivers over standard SMS through the MTN and Orange networks. Any phone that can receive a text message can receive a warning — and every alert is sent in both French and English.
How does a warning actually get triggered?+
A trained volunteer sends a short coded SMS describing what they observe. The matching hazard module scores it against thresholds set for that specific zone. Only when the threshold is crossed is an alert created, de-duplicated, and broadcast to everyone inside the affected area.
What are the 12 hazards you cover?+
Flood, coastal surge, landslide, limnic CO₂ release, seismic activity, storm/wind, fire/heat, air quality, agricultural drought, health-case clusters, infrastructure status and logistics stock — grouped into five domains so the system stays legible.
Who can see the live hazard status?+
The public hazard map is open to everyone. Detailed operational views — delivery logs, triage queues, volunteer records and data exports — require an operator account and are role-gated.
Is the system accountable for what it sends?+
Every broadcast is audited: who triggered it, where it went, how many messages were accepted by the gateways, and when it was resolved. Exports are masked and logged. Accountability is built into the data model, not bolted on.

Training takes an afternoon and the only equipment you need is your own phone. Register your details and assigned zone, and a regional focal point will confirm your onboarding.
